K12 Youth Suicide Prevention ECHO Series – virtual sessions January-May
Participants will learn about various approaches and resources to help identify risk and protective factors, which help to increase a person’s willingness and ability to intervene with a student at risk of suicide. More info and registration at www.uidaho.edu/academics/wwami/echo/current-series/education/youth-suicide-prevention.
SDE’s Idaho Youth Suicide Prevention Program (IYSPP) has funded and supported this series. ECHO Idaho’s K12 Youth Suicide Prevention series is free and is led by an interdisciplinary panel comprised of a child psychologist, school social worker, school counselor, school nurse, gender diverse youth advocate/specialist, and indigenous mental health specialist.
ASIST Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training – These events are occurring at locations all across the state. Visit www.eventbrite.com/o/gem-state-public-health-americorps-63943834373.
LivingWorks ASIST is a two-day in-person workshop featuring powerful audiovisuals, discussions, and simulations. At a LivingWorks ASIST workshop, you’ll learn how to recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide, and how to provide a skilled intervention and develop a safety plan with the person to connect them to further support. You will also consider how personal and community attitudes about suicide affect someone’s openness to seek help and your ability to provide it. This workshop increases willingness, confidence, and capacity to provide suicide first aid instructed by two knowledgeable, supportive trainers to guide the course, ensuring a comfortable and safe learning environment.
LivingWorks Faith – Tuesdays from February 27 to March 19. Online 3 to 4:30 p.m. Mountain time
NAMI Idaho has purchased LivingWorks Faith training licenses. The first pilot will begin in late February and run through March. This is one of the first statewide effort to reach the faith-based communities across Idaho in suicide prevention trainings.
LivingWorks Faith is designed for those who want to learn to effectively comfort, intervene and minister around the issue of suicide in their congregations. LivingWorks Faith gives ministry leaders foundational skills to make their congregations and communities safer from suicide, creating a supportive environment where people feel comfortable both seeking and offering help.
If you know anyone who may be interested, refer them to your local public health district suicide prevention coordinator or to Andrew Wood at NAMI Idaho, faith@namiidaho.org. For more on LivingWorks Faith, visit livingworks.net/training/livingworks-faith.
